How much actually reaches your bank?

A higher CTC does not increase your take-home one-for-one. See your monthly in-hand after EPF, PT and tax with the In-Hand Salary Calculator.

How to calculate a salary hike

A salary hike is simply the percentage increase between your old and new pay. The two formulas you need are:

  • New salary = Old salary × (1 + hike% ÷ 100)
  • Hike % = ((New salary − Old salary) ÷ Old salary) × 100

This calculator does both. Use “Find new salary” when you know the percentage you have been offered, and “Find hike %” when you know your old and new figures and want to know the increase.

Salary hike percentage examples

The percentage works on any amount — monthly salary, annual salary or full CTC — because it is a ratio. On a ₹50,000 base: a 10% hike adds ₹5,000 (new ₹55,000), a 20% hike adds ₹10,000 (new ₹60,000) and a 30% hike adds ₹15,000 (new ₹65,000).

Hike vs in-hand salary

Remember that a hike is applied to your CTC, not your take-home. Part of any increase goes to EPF, professional tax and income tax. To see the real monthly impact, run the new figure through our in-hand salary calculator. Government employees expecting a revision should use the 8th Pay Commission calculator, which uses a fitment factor instead of a flat percentage.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my salary hike percentage?

Hike % = ((New salary − Old salary) ÷ Old salary) × 100. For example, if your salary rises from Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000, the hike is ((60000 − 50000) ÷ 50000) × 100 = 20%. Switch this calculator to "Find hike %" mode and it does this for you from your old and new figures.

How do I calculate my new salary after a hike?

New salary = Old salary × (1 + hike% ÷ 100). For a 10% hike on Rs 50,000, the new salary is 50000 × 1.10 = Rs 55,000. Use "Find new salary" mode above, enter your current salary and the hike percentage, and you will see the new figure instantly.

Should I enter monthly salary or annual CTC?

You can enter either — the hike percentage is the same whether you use monthly salary, annual salary or CTC. The calculator simply applies the percentage to whatever amount you enter, so use the number that is most useful to you.

How do I calculate a 30% or 40% hike?

Enter your current salary and set the hike slider (or type) to 30 or 40. A 30% hike on Rs 8,00,000 CTC is 8,00,000 × 1.30 = Rs 10,40,000, an increase of Rs 2,40,000. Any percentage works the same way.

Does a higher CTC mean a higher in-hand salary?

Not proportionally. A hike increases your CTC, but your take-home depends on deductions like EPF, professional tax and income tax. After calculating your hike, use our in-hand salary calculator to see how much of the increase actually reaches your bank account.

How is the 8th Pay Commission hike calculated?

For central government employees, the 8th Pay Commission revises pay using a fitment factor applied to your basic pay, which is different from a simple percentage hike. Use our dedicated 8th Pay Commission calculator for that; this tool is best for private-sector percentage hikes and appraisals.
